There is SO much to smile about with this production, from a soundtrack you’ll have on repeat to characters that are a joy to cast and bring to life.
THE SONGS
We’ve got silly songs of fishy fellows and crazy rumours, songs of adventuring and belonging, a chaotic hat-parade number and, of course, a BIG fat celebratory finale – in true standing-ovation fashion – to name a few! OH and we can’t forget our most sassy, condescending song of all time from Mother Gothel herself.
THE STORY
This fresh adaptation is SO much more than just a girl in a tower with well-kept hair. It’s a story of adventure, friendships, secrets, rumours and finding the place where you really belong. Follow Teddy, a prince craving more, as his story intertwines with a friendly bunch of fisherfolk, Rapunzel and the Salon Secrets Crew. Spoiler alert: may contain happy-ever-afters all over the (barber)shop!
THE CHARACTERS
We’ve got rumour-spreaders, fisherfolk living a simple life, a lonely Rapunzel craving a whole load of adventure, a prince out of place and a community SO full of hustle and bustle in the run-up to the famous hat parade.

There are 47 speaking parts and some non-speaking servants and trees.
Increasing The Cast Size
Several more speaking parts could be added by including a few more hairdressers and splitting the lines accordingly and a couple more fisherfolk and splitting the lines accordingly, and having eight hosts instead of two, with one line each. Have as many additional non-speaking fisherfolk, townspeople, servants and trees as you like. A few more non-speaking customers and hairdressers could be added too.
Decreasing The Cast Size
The speaking parts can be reduced to 42 by doing the following:
- The Barbershop Bros can double up as four of the fisherfolk
- Have one host instead of two
- It is possible to decrease the speaking parts further with some careful script edits, particularly the fisherfolk and Persons 1-8.
